The Power as Knowing Participation in Change Theory
“THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF THE POWER THEORY CAN BE LEARNED IN A MINUTE. LEARNING TO LIVE POWERFULLY IS THE WORK OF A LIFETIME.”
Elizabeth Ann Manhart Barrett, RN-BC, LMHC; PhD; FAAN
The cornerstone of my work has been the development of the theory of power as knowing participation in change. Here are the key ideas.
DEFINITION: Power is the capacity to participate knowingly in change as manifest by awareness, choices, freedom to act intentionally, and involvement in creating change.
There are four indivisible DIMENSIONS of power:
awareness, choices, freedom to act intentionally, and involvement in creating change.
There are two TYPES of power: power-as-control and power-as-freedom.
There are many, many FORMS in which the two types of power manifest in the world.
"POWER IS OPENNESS TO POSSIBILITIES USING THE ENERGY OF THE WILL TO CHANGE THROUGH THE PRINCIPLE OF REVERSING"
Elizabeth Ann Manhart Barrett RN-BC, LMHC; PhD; FAAN
